Telehealth Support for NDIS Participants’ Mental Health

What is telehealth?

Telehealth allows you to connect with a health or allied-health professional remotely—via phone or video on your smartphone, tablet or computer—rather than travelling to a clinic in person.

Why telehealth is a great option for NDIS participants

If you’re working through a plan under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), telehealth offers a more flexible, accessible way to receive support. It reduces barriers, and puts you in control of how and where you access services. Some of the key benefits:

  • Less travel, more convenience — You don’t need to commute or worry about transport logistics.
  • Comfort and choice — You can access support from home or somewhere you feel safe and comfortable.
  • Reduced health risk — Especially important if vulnerability or location makes travel difficult.
  • Wider access to providers — If you live in a regional or remote area, telehealth opens up more options.
  • Better use of your NDIS funding — Time saved from travel and fewer “hidden” barriers means your plan can focus more directly on the support you want.
  • Continued care when in-person is disrupted — Telehealth ensures you can keep a steady connection with your clinician even when face-to-face appointments aren’t possible.
  • Improved team-communication — Telehealth can help coordination between different professionals or services you engage with.

What kinds of telehealth support can you access?

Under your NDIS-funded plan, telehealth can be used for a wide range of mental-health and allied-health supports, for example:

  • One-on-one video or phone sessions with a psychologist or counsellor.
  • Support coaching and check-ins for those living with psychosocial disability (mental-health conditions affecting daily life).
  • Skills development around self-care, emotional regulation, social connection, everyday living.
  • Allied-health services such as occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech pathology and exercise physiology.

How does telehealth work with Able-iQ?

Here’s how we make it simple and accessible:

  1. Start with your goals. We’ll chat about what you hope to achieve under your NDIS plan, and how telehealth can best support you.
  2. Choose your platform and schedule. You’ll need a smartphone, tablet or computer, and internet or phone access. We’ll walk you through how the session works.
  3. Let’s meet online. You’ll receive an email link for your appointment, join us in a secure virtual space, and engage with your clinician or coach. (We can also run a short, free introductory session to make sure you’re comfortable with the tech.)
  4. Keep going. We’ll stay connected, track your progress, build your supports around how you live life, and adapt as you go.

Why partner with Able-iQ for telehealth?

  • We know how the NDIS supports work, and how mental health & psychosocial disability fit into your plan.
  • You’ll get flexible scheduling and delivery — fitting around your life, not forcing you into clinic times if that’s harder.
  • Our team is built for accessibility: comfortable connecting with you in your preferred space, time, and format.
  • We help you make the most of your funding and reach the goals that matter to you.
  • And now with the added insight from Access Foundation’s offerings: we recognise that telehealth isn’t just about replicating in-person services—it’s about unlocking new possibilities (for example, using items from home in the therapy, reducing travel and cost, enabling greater continuity of care).
